I've heard this characterisation of "New Labour" before.  The two fold problem facing the Left in British politics is the death of links with the War and the War generation, in effect people from a wide range of backgrounds who all shouldered that burden and scars: not just the dead and wounded, but lost education, lost opportunities in employment and starting families.  The second problem is the Welfare State and the postwar improvements in health and social security all of which were opposed by the Tories every single Act crrating the NHS, education, welfare.  It has been done.  The great social battles won (by the Labour Party) so now they are fairly lost without the mission for which they were originally created.   Stealing the Tories clothes and just promising to be a better version of them isn’t enough.   If Syarmer and this lot don't find another usp for Labour in the 21st Century they'll be back into opposition after five years.  Corbyn could have been that leader who reshaped Labour along French socialist lines but he eas a shit politician and an easy target for a frankly vitriolic Thatcherite media in this country and the genetational brainwashing of the British people into monetarist capitalist values.  For example, referring to ones home as a "property" rather than a flat or a house.  Accepting regressive taxation as somehow fair.   Becoming used to the unmaintained dereliction of our town centres and uncared for appearance of our public spaces.  Equating quality of life with purchasing power.   Forty years of hard right wing propaganda as perpetuated by radio stations and hacks like Ferrari and LBC, the Murdoch press and Tories in power have ruined this country and Labour hasn't reinvented itself sufficiently to counter that tsunami (a lot of it directed in Washington) sweeping the UK.

I'm fucking surprised at some of the naivety of the comments.   My prize goes to the one about the "second generation immigrants" being alienated etc etc when this has been gping on since the 18th century or when immigration began.  The first lot are generally grateful and hardworking.   Those that come after never settle down in a white society.  Trouble is a lot of the first generation from the more exotic parts of the world don't really connect anyway right from the off,   Then you have the shipments of whole villages and extended families into Britain from Asia by government behest and invitation (sometimes as a result of our deplorable empire) who immediately ghettoise and have no intention of mixing in with the native population - permanent expatriates.   The current nightmare can be traced directly via the colonial/foreign office to the great public schools and their toe rag old boys.
