Anyone got any thoughts, personal memories, TV based anecdotes?   The class of 1955 is fast receding into history.  Their service to this country will become a distant memory.  I'm thinking, this is another polls driven tactic by the tories like Rwanda - throw (waste) a lot of money at a problem to achieve very little except kudos with some people.   Unlike Scandinavia and Germany any British scheme is likely to be cheap classroom based sessions and a few weekends away under canvas with little quality experience of life and work placements such as with the emergency or health service.  Oh no... that would cost money and require investment in people.   The lack of this sort of investment that has got us to this position today - a total ramshackle disorganised society.

I've got a mental health condition. When ever life doesn't go exactly as mummy and daddy told me it would I feel despair .I've tried to commit suicide 47 times .I can't go on .It's all too much .I've been to university and got a media studies degree but I cant find a job that pays 120k p/a .

Here's the thing.  Either you do this well, ££££&£££!, or you don’t bother.  You could get away with a cut price belt and braces pig sty operation in the 50s (even the early 60s) when nostalgia for last War in films and on TV, comics etc. still flickered.   But it won't cut it today with ANYBODY (not least the military who must be shaking with laughter) as the generation who served 1939-45 who might have felt "serves them bloody right they should get a taste of what I had"  isn't around anymore.

I’m too young to have done national service. It’s well known that I was in the SAS and got kicked out for being too hard and making all the others look like little girls. And the dead paki I hid in the Land Rover.
