Anyone remember this idiotic commercial from the 80's? Le Francais adore Le Piat D'or. Its a tool used in advertising called a mnemonic, a simple way of getting the product stuck in your memory so you know what to ask for. It uses rhyming verse and the implied sophistication the French are renowned for. And there is the crux of the nomination..... French sophistication. Like the famous "stiff upper lip" of the English, it is a myth, a fancy..... an apologue. The French are as sophisticated as my wood burning stove. We are talking here about a race of people who dine on snails and frogs. Reptilian behaviour at best. The conjoined Geordies Ant & Dec sent people halfway around the world to install celebrities in jungles to eat spiders and other such gag reflex inducing aliments. They needn't have bothered! a French restaurant could easily have furnished them with enough vomit inducing delicacies to overwhelm even the most dauntless of celebrities.
