She goes on to say that "this is an abusive relationship presented as a love story.......It normalises abuse, degrades women and encourages sexual violence. There is lots of abuse in the book, not just sexual abuse. Ms Phillipson believed if the author had been a man, the books would not have been published. Way to go Ms Phillipson, you may well have a valid point, but your little bonfire will likely only increase book sales further out of sheer curiosity thereby shooting your original intention right up the arse.
